Improving International Testing on Test.io: Project Scheduling, Time Zones, and Tester Participation.

r with registration, login, placing orders, processing payments, displaying currencies, selecting languages, or accessing certain features. Internet connections, mobile networks, and regional settings may also affect how a website or application works. Therefore, if a website or application is intended for international use, involving testers from different countries could be particularly valuable. This would allow the client to obtain more complete information about how their website or application performs under different real-world conditions. The main goal should not simply be to recruit a certain number of testers, but to test the website or application in different countries and identify issues that might not appear when testing is performed primarily in one region. 2. How Project Launch Times Affect Tester Participation Consider a situation where a client company is based in the United States. Suppose its working day begins at 9:00 AM, and the company submits a project for testing around that time. Once the project becomes available, testers located in the same or nearby time zones may see the invitation immediately and quickly fill the available slots. However, in other parts of the world, it may already be late evening, nighttime, or early morning. The time difference between testers may be 6, 8, 10, or even 12 hours. While some testers are online and able to accept invitations immediately, others may be asleep or have not yet started their working day. By the time they log in to the platform, all available slots may already be filled. As a result, the opportunity to participate in a project may depend not only on a tester's qualifications but also on when the project becomes available. There is another important aspect to consider. If most available slots are filled by testers from similar time zones, the client may not receive testing results from other regions. This means that project launch times may affect not only testers' opportunities to participate but also the completeness of the testing results delivered to the client. 3. How Testing Organization Could Be Improved In my opinion, Test.io could pay more attention to involving testers from different countries and time zones when organizing international testing projects. I am not suggesting fixed quotas, dividing testers into groups, or assigning a specific number of slots to each country. My proposal is different. If a client submits a website or mobile application intended for international use, Test.io could discuss the benefits of involving testers from different countries before the project begins. When organizing such a project, it is important to consider not only the number of testers required but also the opportunity to test the website or application under different real-world conditions. For example, if all available slots are opened at the same time, they may be filled within the first few hours. A more flexible invitation process could help testers from different time zones participate. Test.io could determine the most appropriate approach based on the client's requirements and the project's deadlines. The important point is that the opportunity to test a website or application in different countries should not be lost simply because all available slots were filled shortly after the project was published. 4. Advance Announcements of Upcoming Testing Projects Another suggestion concerns advance planning and informing testers about upcoming projects. Why couldn't Test.io agree on an approximate project launch date and time with clients in advance? For example, a company plans to submit its website or application for testing on October 20. Once the date has been tentatively agreed upon, Test.io could publish an announcement on the platform. Example announcement: Upcoming Testing Project Planned launch date: October 20 Estimated launch time: 10:00 AM–12:00 PM Testing type: Website or mobile application Estimated testing duration: 48 hours Status: Awaiting launch The launch time should preferably be displayed automatically in each tester's local time zone. This would allow testers to plan their schedules in advance. For example, if a tester knows that a project is expected to launch tomorrow during a certain time window, they can prepare their computer or smartphone and be ready for a possible invitation. This is much more convenient than repeatedly checking the platform throughout the day without knowing when the next project will appear. Test.io could also introduce notifications 24 hours or 1 hour before the expected launch. If the client changes the date or time, the announcement could be updated accordingly. Of course, an advance announcement should not reveal confidential client information or guarantee participation in the project. Its purpose would simply be to help testers prepare for potential invitations. 5. Testing Duration and Time Zone Differences Another important issue is the duration of testing projects. Suppose a client plans to run a testing project for 24 hours. However, if Test.io wants to involve testers from different parts of the world, time zone differences should be taken into account. While the working day is beginning in one region, it may be the middle of the night in another. Therefore, Test.io could discuss with clients the possibility of extending certain testing projects, for example, from 24 to 48 hours. This would make it easier to involve testers from different time zones and obtain testing results from different countries. I am not suggesting that every project should be extended. If a client needs urgent testing, the project should follow the client's requirements and deadlines. However, when a website or application is intended for international use, additional time may be valuable for more comprehensive testing. Test.io could proactively offer this option to clients and explain the benefits of testing with participants from different countries. 6. How This Could Work in Practice Imagine a company based in the United States contacting Test.io to test its website or mobile application. During project preparation, Test.io clarifies the client's requirements, the website's or application's features, and whether testing in different countries would be beneficial. If international testing is relevant, the platform suggests involving testers from different time zones. Test.io then agrees with the client on an approximate launch date and testing duration. After that: An announcement about the upcoming project is published on the platform in advance. Testers can see the estimated launch date and time in their local time zones. Test.io organizes invitations so that qualified testers from different countries have an opportunity to participate. Testers check the website or application using their own devices and real-world conditions. Any issues found are documented in bug reports. The client receives testing results from testers located in different countries. As a result, the client receives more detailed information about how their website or application works, while Test.io makes better use of its international tester community. 7. Benefits of the Proposed Approach For Clients The opportunity to obtain more comprehensive testing results from different countries, identify issues related to regional conditions, and better understand the problems users may encounter. For Test.io The opportunity to improve the organization of international projects, make better use of its tester community, and offer clients more comprehensive testing of their websites and applications. For Testers The opportunity to learn about upcoming projects in advance, plan their schedules, and reduce the likelihood of missing invitations due to time zone differences. Conclusion In my opinion, one of the main advantages of an international crowdtesting platform is its ability to involve testers from different countries around the world. If a client submits a website or mobile application intended for international use, testing should ideally be organized so that qualified testers from different countries and time zones can participate. The main goal should not simply be to fill all available testing slots as quickly as possible, but to provide the client with more comprehensive testing results from different regions. Therefore, I would like to suggest that Test.io consider the following improvements: Discuss the benefits of testing websites and mobile applications with testers from different countries when preparing international projects. Take time zone differences into account when organizing invitations, so that testers from different regions have a realistic opportunity to participate. Agree on approximate project launch dates and times with clients in advance and publish preliminary announcements on the platform. Where appropriate, offer clients longer testing periods, such as 48 hours instead of 24, to allow participation from testers in different parts of the world. I understand that Test.io already has established processes for selecting testers and organizing projects, and I am not familiar with all the details of how these processes work internally. Nevertheless, I believe these suggestions are worth considering, as their main purpose is to improve testing quality and make international testing projects more effective. I would be interested to hear the opinions of the Test.io team and other members of the tester community on this topic. Thank you for your time and consideration!
